From Pioneer to Godmother: Louise Brown Accompanies the Birth of Tambre Alicante

18 September 2025 will remain a milestone in the history of Grupo Tambre. On that day, facing the port of Alicante, the new Tambre Alicante fertility clinic was officially inaugurated — a space designed to care for fertility from a human and advanced perspective.

Among the guests was a very special figure: Louise Joy Brown, the first person ever born through in vitro fertilisation (IVF). Her presence, as godmother of the opening, symbolised the link between the origins of assisted reproduction and the future that Tambre now represents.

Weeks later, Louise shared her experience on her personal blog, describing with emotion her meeting with the team and her impressions of the new clinic. In her post, entitled “Becoming a ‘Godmother’ in Alicante, Spain”, she highlights the warm atmosphere, scientific vocation, and international spirit that define Tambre. Her words are, in many ways, a reflection of who we are and the story we continue to write every day.

Science with Soul, in the Heart of the Mediterranean

Louise recounts that upon arriving at the Panoramis building, she was struck by the setting: an open, bright space facing the sea and full of life. Where there was once a cinema, there now stands a fertility clinic in Alicante that doesn’t feel like a clinic. And indeed, that was one of Tambre’s main goals when conceiving its new site in Alicante: to create an environment where reproductive medicine can be experienced in a closer, calmer, and more human way.

“A place that makes you feel good”

At Tambre Alicante, architecture and science are in dialogue. Every detail — from the layout of the spaces to the natural light that fills each consultation room — has been designed to inspire peace and trust. Above all, this new centre represents the union of nearly five decades of experience in Madrid with a forward-looking vision.

An International Benchmark That Keeps Growing

Louise also emphasises in her blog the international character of the group: patients from over 100 countries, a multilingual team, and personalised treatments for every story. Tambre, founded in 1978, shares with Louise a symbolic date: that same year, she was born — the first IVF baby in the world — and Tambre was also born. Since then, more than 25,000 children have come into the world thanks to the science and dedication of Tambre’s medical team.

“It’s wonderful to see how the legacy of IVF continues to transform lives, and how clinics like Tambre do it with such commitment”

Louise Brown

The opening of Tambre Alicante is the natural continuation of that journey. In this new centre, Tambre has strengthened its expertise in complex cases such as implantation failure, low ovarian reserve, endometriosis, recurrent miscarriage, and severe male factor infertility — cases that demand experience, diagnostic precision, and above all, human support.

From Pioneer to Godmother

During the inauguration, Louise Brown toured the facilities, shared moments with the team, and posed alongside Inge Kormelink, CEO of Grupo Tambre, on a day full of excitement. It was a meeting between history and innovation — between the first life made possible by science and an institution that continues to make thousands of families’ dreams of parenthood come true.

In her account, Louise speaks of the warmth of the team, the energy that filled the air that day, and the enthusiasm she felt in every person she met — words that truly capture the spirit that drives every Tambre project.

A Symbol of What Tambre Represents

Her visit was far more than a symbolic act. It represented a bridge between the past and the future of fertility — between that small laboratory in 1978 where it all began, and this new era where technology, research and empathy coexist to offer the most advanced treatments.

“Louise reminds us where we come from, and Tambre Alicante represents where we are heading: towards a future in which every patient feels heard, understood and supported”

Inge Kormelink, CEO of Grupo Tambre

The stories of Louise Brown and Tambre share the same essence: a deep belief in the power of science to transform lives. Her visit to Alicante was not only a touching gesture but also a reminder that every new birth, every success story, continues to write the legacy that began nearly half a century ago.

A Story that Unites Science and Humanity

From Tambre Alicante, we continue to work with the same commitment that guided us in 1978: to combine medical excellence with human warmth, accompanying every person on their journey to motherhood or fatherhood. Today, the story that began with the world’s first IVF baby lives on in every patient who places their trust in us.
