‘The environment, the pace of life, stress, alcohol and tobacco greatly affect semen quality’

Find out a little more about me

At school, at the end of the 16-year course, I focused on science and in particular on medicine. As for the speciality, it was always clear to me that I wanted to do a speciality that combined surgery and testing; urology meets those criteria very well.

The urologist is responsible for the study of the male factor, which in isolation accounts for 30-35% of infertility cases, although the couple must always be taken into account.

Helping couples who often start a very physically and emotionally demanding process.

Male fertility can be greatly affected by the current environment; a stressful life, eating habits, smoking, alcohol, etc., which can in turn greatly affect the quality of semen, as well as genetic alterations, which we study in most cases.

I am interested in all aspects of patient care, but surgery is what I am most passionate about.

Firstly, by talking to them and assessing the couple’s level of anxiety, explaining the details of the diagnosis and possible treatments clearly and slowly. And always giving them realistic hope based on scientific literature and our experience, which spans more than 20 years at the clinic.

Firstly, not feeling guilty, understanding the process and internalising what they can do to improve. Also, supporting their partner throughout the process.

During my 20 years at Tambre, we have had great success stories, sometimes unexpected, but ultimately I am happy to be able to help all the couples who have come through our doors.

For starters, they should be aware that their ‘fertility health’ is important and that unhealthy habits can really affect it… Just like changing those habits can really improve it. Also, they should understand that they’re part of a process with their partner and that getting tested and taking care of themselves is really important.
